My Comeback Story: Stephanie C.

5+ Hour Reconstruction Surgery to Walking a 5k in Less Than a Year

First, I have to be very clear. Dr. Gorman is the VERY best ankle/foot surgeon I have ever worked with. My first (and only) surgery with Dr. Gorman was my 5th ankle/foot surgery in less than three years.

From the first appointment I had a clear understanding of the condition of my left foot and ankle and the various potential treatment options because Dr. Gorman explained everything to me in detail.
On June 5, 2025, Dr. Gorman completed an almost 6 hour surgery on my left foot and ankle. She had to break several bones, fuse some areas, and reconstruct most of the ligaments and tendons. I was non weight bearing for 6 weeks.
At my first post-op Dr. Gorman sat with me and was willing to remove all of my stitches (10 incisions) so her wonderful medical assistant could help other patients and so Dr. Gorman had more time to explain the surgery and the plan going forward.
Dr. Gorman referred me to the team at Basecamp Physical Therapy. Damien and his team were incredible. We started PT the week before I could walk and focused a lot on scar tissue movement which I had not received before and which increased the speed of my healing tremendously in comparison to previous surgeries.

I saw Dr. Gorman for a couple more follow ups and everything was and is healing correctly.

On January 17, 2026, I walked the entire PHX Zoo Move and Groove 5k without stopping and very, very minimal pain which I was able to stretch out.

I am amazed. I wish I could go back and reassure myself at day 3 post-op that things were going to get SO much better. Thank you, Dr. Gorman. Thank you for your patience, consistency and intentional care. Thank you for meaning it when you said this surgery would be a big one BUT it would be ONE AND DONE.

PS. I am now in PHX and am an elementary teacher which means I am up on my feet all day everyday. I CAN do it. NO PAIN. So, I think my littles would also thank you, Dr. Gorman.
