Flagstaff Bone & Joint to Become Flagstaff's First Autism-Friendly Orthopaedic Practice Through Partnership With Kaibab Behavioral Services

Flagstaff Bone & Joint is proudly breaking ground on a new partnership with Kaibab Behavioral Services to become the first autism-friendly orthopaedic practice in Flagstaff, expanding its commitment to providing accessible, patient-centered care for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Through the partnership, Kaibab Behavioral Services will provide specialized training for Flagstaff Bone & Joint doctors, physician assistants, medical assistants, therapists, imaging professionals and administrative staff. The initiative will equip team members with practical strategies to better support autistic and neurodiverse patients throughout every stage of their care.

"As healthcare providers, our responsibility extends beyond treating injuries. We must also create an environment where every patient feels understood and comfortable," said Christina Smith, marketing and business development manager at Flagstaff Bone & Joint. "By partnering with Kaibab Behavioral Services, we're helping ensure neurodiverse individuals and their families receive the compassionate, personalized orthopaedic care they deserve."

"This partnership is about creating lasting change," said Korina Maestas, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA, founder and clinical director of Kaibab Behavioral Services. "Small adjustments in communication, preparation and the healthcare environment can make a meaningful difference for autistic individuals and their families. We're proud to partner with Flagstaff Bone & Joint to help build a more inclusive healthcare experience for our community."

Upon completing the program, Flagstaff Bone & Joint will receive Autism-Friendly Practice recognition from Kaibab Behavioral Services and continue to receive ongoing consultation to help strengthen and sustain its inclusive care initiatives.
